Long John Silver aka Barbecue aka The Sea Cook

The grandfather of them all. The pirate that made parrots a must ahve accessory.

In Treasure Island, Long John Silver is a pirate and was the ship's quartermaster under the notorious Captain Flint. Silver had served in the Royal Navy and lost his leg under "the immortal Hawke". He was said to have been the only man whom Flint ever feared. Like many of Stevenson's characters, there is more than a modicum of duality in the character; ostensibly Silver is a hard-working and likeable seaman, and it is only as the plot unfurls that his villainous nature is gradually revealed.

Robert Newton is still considered the quintessential Long John Silver,
but the character has been portrayed by numerous other actors including: Orson Welles, Charlton Heston, Anthony Quinn, and Jack Palance.
